Alachua County will open Alachua County Forever's Sweetwater Preserve to the public on Saturday, July 19, 2008. The Preserve entrance is located on the Gainesville Hawthorne Rail Trail, just north of Boulware Springs City Park on SW 15th Street in SE Gainesville. There will be a ribbon cutting, opportunities to address attendees and about 4 miles of trails for hiking and biking. Click on these links for details on the site and the event.
July 11--Staycation Friday: Florida Carriage Museum The Florida Carriage Museum & Resortencompasses over 400 acres of beauty in Central Florida's horse country. Visitors to the Museum re-live history as they experience one of the finest collections of carriages in the world. They can even take a carriage ride (by prior appointment) on the winding roads through tall oaks draped in Spanish Moss, around the Qin Dynasty Gardens and past the exotic Japanese Koi pond. Horses abound; a rare Poitou donkey named Nicolette and her best friend, a Miniature Horse named Gracie, welcome visitors and look for a scratch on the head.
The Museum houses one of the largest, privately owned collections of carriages in the world. It is open to the public and there are more than 160 meticulously restored carriages including the 1840's Dress Chariot formerly owned by Emperor Franz Joseph of Austria.
The 2nd Annual Hot Summer Chili Cookoff will be held at the Trenton Community Farmers Market Saturday, June 21 from Noon to 4pm. Great prizes! Rain or shine!
